Introduction

The use of chemical fertilizers in soybean cultivation continues to increase, but the use of biological fertilizer is expected to increase the growth and yield of soybeans. This research was conducted on the experimental land of the University of North Sumatra from April to August 2017 using a divided plot design. There are three factors tested: varieties (Anjasmoro and Grobogan), biological fertilizer (0, 50, and 100 kg/ha), and NPK fertilizer (0, 125, and 250 kg/ha). Observed parameters include plant height, leaf green level, flowering time, harvest time, the number of productive branches, number of pods per sample, number of seeds per sample, seed weight per sample, and dry weight of 100 seeds.

Biological fertilizer does not have a significant effect on all parameters. Compound NPK fertilizer has a significant effect on the height of the plant in the 5th week after planting, leaf green level, and the number of seeds per sample. The interaction between varieties and biological fertilizers has a significant effect on flowering time. The interaction between varieties and NPK fertilizer has a significant effect on flowering time and the number of seeds per sample.

Discussion

The results of this study provide important information for soybean farmers. The use of appropriate varieties, fertilizing appropriate compound NPK, and the potential for using biological fertilizer to increase the growth and yield of soybeans needs to be considered. Further research is needed to optimize the dose of biological fertilizer and understand the mechanism of interaction with different soybean varieties.
