Analysis using one-way ANOVA indicates a significant difference in the release of nickel ions between the three groups. Post-Hoc LSD analysis also shows a significant difference between the group of Mobe Leaf Ethanol extract solutions and chlorhexidine solution groups, as well as between the group of artificial salivary solutions and chlorhexidine solutions.

Discussion

The results of this study show that the methanol extract solution of Mobe Leaves 3.125 mg/ml has a significant amount of lower nickel ion release compared to a 0.2% chlorhexidine solution. Meanwhile, no significant differences were found in the release of nickel ions between stainless steel brackets that were soaked in Mobe leaf extract and artificial saliva. This finding provides important insights for the practice of orthodontic, especially in the selection of mouthwash that is safer for use during treatment.

This study provides evidence that the use of Mobe leaf ethanol extract as an alternative mouthwash can reduce the risk of hypersensitivity reactions caused by nickel ions, as well as providing antibacterial effects needed in maintaining the health of the oral cavity during orthodontic treatment.
