The Relationship Between Knowledge of Hospital Accreditation and Individual Characteristics with the Performance of Nurses at Mitra Sejati Hospital Medan in 2014
Introduction
Nursing services play a vital role in achieving hospital performance, both individually and collectively. Mitra Sejati General Hospital, Medan, has received a hospital accreditation for all of its nursing staff. However, after running one year, there was a decrease in the quality of nursing services that had been standardized. This study aims to reveal the relationship between nurse knowledge about hospital accreditation and individual characteristics with nurse performance at Mitra Sejati Hospital Medan.
Background
Hospital accreditation is a process of evaluating and improving the quality of healthcare services provided by a hospital. It involves assessing the hospital's policies, procedures, and practices to ensure that they meet certain standards. In Indonesia, hospital accreditation is mandatory for all hospitals, including Mitra Sejati General Hospital, Medan. The hospital's nursing staff is expected to understand and adhere to the hospital's accreditation standards to provide high-quality nursing services.
Methodology
This study uses a cross-sectional design with an explanatory approach. All nurses in the hospital, totaling 186 people, were used as a sample. Data was collected through interviews with questionnaires and analyzed using multiple logistics regression with a significance level of α = 0.05.
Results
The results showed that nurses' knowledge about hospital accreditation, including philosophy and objectives, administration and management, staff and leaders, facilities and equipment, policies and procedures, staff and education development, as well as quality evaluation and control, have a significant relationship with nurse performance. Likewise, individual characteristics such as age and length of work, also have a significant effect on the performance of nurses. The age variable shows the most powerful relationship with the performance of nurses.
Discussion
The findings of this study suggest that nurse knowledge about hospital accreditation is a critical factor in determining nurse performance. Nurses who have a good understanding of the hospital's accreditation standards are more likely to provide high-quality nursing services. This is because they are aware of the hospital's policies and procedures, and they are able to implement them effectively.
The individual characteristics of nurses, such as age and length of work, also play a significant role in determining nurse performance. Younger nurses and those with more experience are more likely to perform well. This is because they have had more opportunities to learn and develop their skills, and they are more likely to be motivated to provide high-quality nursing services.
Conclusion
This study provides several important recommendations for improving the performance of nurses at Mitra Sejati Hospital in Medan.

Limitations
This study has several limitations. Firstly, the sample size was relatively small, which may limit the generalizability of the findings. Secondly, the study only focused on the relationship between nurse knowledge and individual characteristics with nurse performance, and did not explore other factors that may influence nurse performance.
