The Influence of Audiovisual Media and Lectures on the Knowledge and Attitudes of Adolescents about the Importance of Consumption of Vegetables and Fruit in SMPIT Al Musabbihin and SMPIT Namira Medan in 2018
Introduction
Consumption of fruits and vegetables plays a vital role in maintaining overall health, but unfortunately, awareness of their importance is still low among the people of Indonesia. According to data, only 6.4% of teenagers aged 10-14 years consume five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day, while the rest consume less than that. One of the factors contributing to this low consumption is the lack of negative knowledge and attitude. Therefore, health promotion is necessary, and one effective way to achieve this is through the use of audiovisual media. This study aims to analyze the influence of audiovisual media and lectures in increasing students' knowledge and attitudes on vegetable and fruit consumption at Al Musabbihin SMPIT and Namira Medan Middle School.
The Importance of Fruits and Vegetables in Maintaining Health
Fruits and vegetables are essential for maintaining overall health, and their consumption has numerous benefits. They are rich in essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that help to prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables can also help to maintain a healthy weight, improve digestion, and boost the immune system. However, despite their numerous benefits, the consumption of fruits and vegetables is still low among adolescents in Indonesia.
Research Methodology
This study employed an experimental quasi with group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted in two schools, namely Al Musabbihin SMPIT and Namira Medan SMPIT, with a total population of 58 people. Of these, the sample was divided into two groups: 28 people at Al Musabbihin SMPIT and 30 people at Namira Middle School. Data analysis was carried out using univariate analysis and bivariate analysis, specifically the dependent t test (paired-sample t test) at a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05).
Research Result
The results of this study indicate that the use of audiovisual media has no significant effect on increasing student knowledge about the importance of vegetable and fruit consumption when compared to the lecture method. However, audiovisual media has proven to have a positive effect in increasing students' attitudes for the importance of consumption of vegetables and fruit. This shows that although student knowledge does not increase significantly, their attitude towards healthy eating patterns can be improved through interesting visual experiences.
Additional Analysis and Explanation
The results of this study have important implications for health promotion strategies among adolescents. A positive attitude formed through audiovisual media can be an effective first step in building healthy eating habits. When teens have a positive attitude, they will be more likely to try and consume more fruits and vegetables. Although increasing knowledge is important, changes in attitude can be the key in encouraging healthy behavior among adolescents.

Although both are proven effective in increasing attitudes and knowledge, the use of audiovisual media is prioritized to build positive attitudes of students regarding the consumption of vegetables and fruit. With the right approach, it is expected that awareness of the importance of healthy eating patterns can grow and contribute to improving adolescent health in Indonesia.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study has shown that the use of audiovisual media has a positive effect on increasing students' attitudes towards healthy eating patterns. Although student knowledge does not increase significantly, their attitude towards healthy eating patterns can be improved through interesting visual experiences. Therefore, the use of audiovisual media as a means of health promotion needs to be considered more seriously by educators and decision makers in the health sector. By using a combination of audiovisual media and lecture methods, educators can create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages students to adopt healthy behaviors.
Limitation of the Study
This study has several limitations that need to be addressed in future research. Firstly, the sample size was small, and the study was conducted in only two schools.
