Methodology

Study Location and Duration

This study was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan, from June to September 2018. The study aimed to analyze the growth of sugar cane bud sets based on the length of storage and age of planting material.

Experimental Design

The method used was a randomized factorial group, with two main factors: storage time (3, 6, 9, and 12 days) and material age Planting (6, 7, and 8 months).

Results

Optimal Storage Length and Age of Planting Material

The results showed that the highest percentage of growing and dry weight was obtained from the storage of planting material for 9 days. Meanwhile, for the length of the seeds, the number of leaves, the root volume, the wet weight of the canopy, the root wet weight, the dry weight of the canopy, and the best dry root weight comes from the planting material aged 7 months.

Interaction between Storage Length and Age of Planting Material

This study also found that there was no interaction between the length of storage and the age of the planting material in increasing the growth of sugar cane bud set.
