This study aims to evaluate personal hygiene from cow's milk rawers and check the content of Salmonella sp. in dairy cow's milk taken from several livestock locations in the city of Medan.

The research method used in this study is descriptive. This study involved observations and direct interviews with the personal hygiene of milk rawers, sanitation of cow pens, equipment cleanliness, and the cleanliness of the cow itself. To find out the quality of milk, researchers conducted an examination of Salmonella sp. at the Regional Health Laboratory Center of North Sumatra Province.

Results and Discussion

The results showed that the level of personal hygiene of milk rawers can be categorized as well at 40% of respondents, also quite good at 40%, and bad at 20% of respondents. All farms (100%) still use manual milking techniques. In addition, sanitation in dairy farms shows that half of the farm (50%) is in good condition. Laboratory test results show that cow's milk from three farms is free from Salmonella sp. bacteria, meets the established quality standards. However, another farm shows positive results, which means milk from the place does not meet quality standard standards.

The Animal Husbandry Service is expected to provide sustainable guidance and supervision of livestock business, especially in terms of hygiene and milk sanitation. In addition, consumers are also advised to always choose dairy cow's milk that has been pasteurized to reduce the risk of bacterial contamination.
