This study aims to compare the emotional mental health of adolescents who attend Full-Day and Half-Day schools. The study used the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) questionnaire, which consists of 25 questions designed for children aged 11 to 16 years.

The study was conducted in October 2015, involving students from Harapan Mandiri Middle School (Half-Day School) and Al-Fityan Medan SMPIT (Full-Day School). A total of 268 students participated in the study, divided into 134 students from each school. The method used in this study was a cross-sectional study with a chi-square test analysis.

The results showed a significant relationship between the duration of learning in schools and hyperactivity problems, with a probability value of 0.006 (p <0.05). However, no significant relationship was found for emotional symptoms (p = 0.105), behavioral problems (p = 0.698), problems with peers (p = 0.184), prosocial problems (p = 0.169), as well as mental and emotional problems as a whole (p = 0.310).

Full-Day schools usually present longer study hours, with various structured activities, while Half-Day schools provide shorter study time with the possibility of more time for activities outside of school.
