Introduction

This study aims to analyze the effect of road infrastructure costs and the number of tourist visits on the GRDP of the Tourism Sector in Simalungun Regency. By using a quantitative approach and association methods, this study measures statistical variables to determine the relationship between these factors and the GRDP of the tourism sector.

Methodology

This study uses a quantitative approach and association methods to analyze the effect of road infrastructure costs and tourist visits on the GRDP of the Tourism Sector in Simalungun Regency. The data collection was carried out using secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Simalungun Regency and the Directorate General of Financial Balance, with a span of 30 years, from 1992 to 2021. Multiple linear regression analysis was carried out using EViews 10 software. The dependent variable in this research is the GRDP of the Tourism Sector in Simalungun Regency, which is measured in billions of rupiah, while the independent variables include road infrastructure costs and tourist visits.

Results and Discussion

The results of this study indicate that road infrastructure costs have a significant positive influence on the GRDP of the Tourism Sector in Simalungun Regency. This means that increasing investment in road infrastructure will contribute to the growth of the tourism sector. When accessibility to tourist sites is improved, this will make it easier for tourists to visit the area, thereby increasing the number of visits. This is consistent with the findings of previous studies, which have shown that improved infrastructure can lead to increased tourist arrivals and revenue generation (1).

On the other hand, the number of tourist visits also has a significant positive influence on the GRDP of the tourism sector. This illustrates the importance of promotional and development of tourist destinations to be more attractive to tourists. When the number of tourists increases, the revenue generated from the tourism sector will also increase, which in turn will contribute to regional economic growth.
