Introduction

Results

The results of this study showed that the density of iron metal decreased along with the addition of inhibitor concentrations, both after being soaked for 3 days or 6 days. Increasing the value of corrosion rate was also observed in line with increasing the composition of inhibitors. The biggest increase recorded was 9.4%, with the value of corrosion rate reaching 245.84 N/m² in immersion for 3 days with an inhibitor concentration of 20%, compared to the concentration of 10% inhibitors. From the measurement results of the corrosion rate, an interesting result was obtained: samples with a 20% inhibitor composition showed the lowest corrosion rate, which was 10.03 miles per year (MPY) after 3 days soaking, and 7.21 MPY after 6 days.

Discussion

The efficiency of inhibitors of watermelon skin extract reached a value of 27.31% in the composition of 20% in the sea water environment after 6 days soaking. This shows that the use of natural inhibitors such as watermelon skin extracts can be effective in slowing the rate of iron metal corrosion in corrosive conditions. This study highlights the importance of using natural ingredients as a solution to overcome corrosion in metals, especially in very corrosive environments such as sea water.
