Introduction

The increasing levels of organic pollutants in the environment have become a significant concern for scientists and policymakers worldwide. One of the most effective ways to mitigate this issue is through the use of photocatalysts, which can break down organic pollutants into harmless compounds. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of nanocomposit zinc oxide dopy nitrogen and carbon dots (CDS) as photocatalysts in the photodegradation of organic pollutants, specifically Metilen Blue (MB). Our research aimed to explore the potential of this nanocomposite material in the field of waste management and environmental maintenance.

Synthesis of Carbon Dots and Zinc Oxide

The first stage of our study involved the synthesis of carbon dots using soybeans as precursors and ethylendiamine as doping nitrogen through the hydrothermal method at 180 ° C for 8 hours. This method allowed us to produce high-quality carbon dots with a uniform size and structure. In the second stage, the dopy nitrogen (N-Zno) zinc oxide was synthesized using urea as a nitrogen doping with the calcination method at 500 ° C for 2 hours in nitrogens air condition (N2) and a heating rate of 5 ° C/min. This calcination temperature was determined based on the results of the TGA analysis, which ensured that the zinc oxide was fully doped with nitrogen.

Characterization of Nanocomposite Materials

The third stage of our study involved the synthesis of the nanocomposite material N-ZNO/CDS using a simple method with a concentration ratio of 2: 1. The results of the characterization of the nanocomposite materials showed that both N-Zno and Nanocomposit N-ZNO/CDS exhibited the structure of Hexagonal Wurtzite. Additionally, the nanocomposite materials experienced an increase in photocatalyst characteristics, such as adsorption in the visible ray region, a microphoous structure, and a small EG value. The surface area of the nanocomposite materials was also measured, with N-Zno exhibiting a surface area of 3,827 m²/g and N-Zno/CDS exhibiting a surface area of 3,757 m²/g.

Photocatalytic Activity of Nanocomposite Materials

In the final stage of our study, the photocatalysts of CDS, N-Zno, and N-ZnO/CDS were used in the process of blue methylene photodegradation under UV-B radiation for 60 minutes. The results showed that the nanocomposite material N-ZNO/CDS exhibited the highest effectiveness of 83.4% photodegradation with a degradation rate k = 0.0202 minutes⁻¹. This was evidenced by the UV-VIS and PL data, which explained that doping nitrogen in ZnO forms P semiconductors, and the presence of CDS, which functions as a conductor of energy and photosensitizer, thereby reducing and preventing the recombination of electrons and holes.

Conclusion

In conclusion, our study demonstrated the effectiveness of nanocomposite N-ZNO/CDS as a photocatalyst material for the degradation of blue methylene organic liquid waste. The good ability of this nanocomposite to reduce pollutants opens new opportunities in the field of waste management and environmental maintenance. The success of synthesis and characterization shows that this technology can be widely implemented in environmentally friendly and sustainable waste management. Our findings suggest that the use of nanocomposite materials in photocatalytic reactions can be a promising approach for the degradation of organic pollutants, and further research in this area is warranted.
