Introduction

Funted forests often experience a significant decrease in land productivity in the long run. This is caused by biogeoclimate proposals that occur due to logging, which causes the loss of a number of soil microbes, especially those who symbiotic with forest plants. One of the important microbial groups affected is the fungus of the Arbuscula micoriza (CMA). CMA plays an important role in increasing plant growth by helping the absorption of nutrients and water, as well as increasing resistance to pathogens and environmental stress.

The loss of CMA in funted forests can have severe consequences on the ecosystem, including reduced plant growth, decreased soil fertility, and increased susceptibility to pests and diseases. Therefore, it is essential to understand the diversity of CMA in funted forests and the factors that influence its existence. This study aims to investigate the diversity of CMA in the natural forest of the former logging of Portibi Lama Village, Karo Regency, and to understand how the duration of time after logging affects the diversity of CMA.

Methodology

This study was conducted in the natural forest of the former logging of Portibi Lama Village, Karo Regency, in the period May to September 2004. Observations were made on the former logging land and in the Laboratory of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra. The data obtained were analyzed descriptive quantitatively, including observing spore density, degree of root infection, identification of spore types, and spore diversity analysis using various indexes, such as absolute frequency (FM), relative frequency (FR), similarity index (s), dominance index (C), and the Shannon-Wiener diversity index.

Results

The results showed that the former logging land at the study site had a high symbiosis with CMA. There are 19 types of CMA found, with 18 types of Glomus sp. which dominates and one type of Entrophospora sp. The length of time after logging has a significant effect on the number of CMA spores. The longer the time after logging, the more the number of CMA spores found. This is indicated by the highest number of CMA spores at the location 4 years after logging and the lowest at the location 6 months after logging.

Analysis of the Shannon-Wiener diversity index shows that the SP-2 glomus has the highest diversity (2,717), while the SP-5 and SP-7 glomus has the lowest diversity (0). After trapping activities, the SP-14 glomus has the highest diversity (2,550) and the SP-15 glomus has the lowest diversity (0). CMA found is dominated by Glomus sp. Types of CMA found periodically both before and after trapping are Glomus SP-2, Glomus SP-4, and Glomus SP-8.

Discussion

This study also found that CMA showed a clear host preference. CMA colonization is found in all types of plants observed (Schima sp., Vitex sp., And Peronema sp.), Which is characterized by an infection of the plant roots. The percentage of observed plant colonization ranges from 3.92% to 78.26%. The results of this study have important implications in the rehabilitation efforts of fogging forests.
