Introduction

The use of contraceptive pills has become a popular method of birth control in many parts of the world, including Indonesia. However, despite its widespread use, there are still many factors that influence compliance with the use of contraceptive pills. This study aims to explore the factors that influence compliance with the use of contraceptive pills in Medan Tuntung District, Medan Municipality. With an analytical descriptive research method and a cross-sectional approach, observations are made on contraceptive pill acceptors who are using this method during the study.

Research Design and Methodology

The design of this study involved direct observations of a number of contraceptive pill acceptors in the specified area. To analyze data, researchers use Chi-Square statistical tests and logistics regression, utilizing SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) version 15 devices. The study involved a total of 220 samples of cases of contraceptive pill acceptors who were analyzed.

Research Results and Findings

The results of this study show that the distribution of the most participants was in the age group over 35 years, namely 116 people (52.7%). In terms of education, groups with high school education level dominate with 91 people (41.4%), followed by 62 junior high school groups (28.2%). In terms of parity, 169 people (76.8%) have 2-4 children, while only 41 people (18.6%) have less than 2 children.

The duration of use of contraceptive pills is also an important factor, where 83 people (37.7%) have used pills for more than 24 months. Related to the brand of pills, Nordette contraceptive pills are the most common, used by 70 people (31.8%), followed by microdiols used by 63 people (28.6%). Midwives are the most source of information about contraceptive pills, with 123 people (55.9%) getting information through them. Puskesmas is also the main source of information with 69 people (31.4%), while 55 people (25%) get information from midwives.

Most respondents chose contraceptive pills because they were easily obtained (153 people, 69.5%). In terms of satisfaction, 199 people (90.5%) said they did not want to stop using contraceptive pills. A total of 146 people (66.4%) did not experience side effects, while 74 people (33.6%) reported experiencing side effects. Interestingly, the majority of respondents (127 people, 57.7%) have less knowledge about contraceptive pills.

From these results, it appears that compliance with contraceptive pills use is strongly influenced by several factors, including the length of use and side effects that are felt. Respondents who did not experience side effects tend to be more obedient than those who experience side effects. It is also interesting to note that although most respondents have less knowledge, many of them remain positive and have a strong intention to continue to use contraceptive pills.
