Introduction

Soybean farming in Indonesia, particularly in Pasam land, faces significant challenges due to difficulties in obtaining essential nutrients and the disruption of beneficial microorganisms such as Bradyrhizobium sp., which plays a crucial role in nitrogen fixation. This study aims to investigate the effects of inoculating Bradyrhizobium sp. resistant to acidity, variations in acid soil locations, and the interaction between these factors on the growth and production of soybeans.

Background

Soybean (Glycine max L.Merrill) is one of the most widely cultivated legumes in the world, and Indonesia is among the top soybean-producing countries. However, soybean farming in Indonesia is often hindered by the presence of acid soils, which can lead to nutrient deficiencies and reduced crop yields. Methodology

This study was conducted in two acid mineral soil locations, Cengkeh Turi Village, Binjai, and Jati Kesuma Village, Deli Serdang, in the period August to November 2018. A Factorial Random Design (RAK) with two treatment factors and four replications was used. The first factor was the inoculation of Bradyrhizobium sp., consisting of three treatments: without inoculants, inoculants BGR 3, and LP inoculants 3. The second factor was calcification, consisting of without lime and lime. The location of the acid soil tested was Cengkeh Turi Village and Jati Kesuma Village.

Results

The results showed that inoculation with LP 3 was more effective in increasing soybean growth, while BGR 3 was more profitable in increasing soybean production. The addition of lime was also proven to be able to increase both growth and soybean yields in the two locations of the acid mineral soil. Specifically, soybean plants planted in Cengkeh Turi Village showed better growth and results than those planted in Jati Kesuma Village.

Interaction Effects

The interaction between BGR 3 inoculant treatment and location in Cengkeh Turi Village contributed to an increase in plant height at the age of 3 weeks after planting (MST). On the other hand, the treatment of LP 3 in the same location had a positive effect in reducing the number of empty pods. In addition, the interaction between lime administration and differences in the location of acid mineral soils succeeded in increasing the root dry weight and dry weight of one hundred soybean seeds.

Discussion

This research provides important insights for the development of soybean agriculture in Indonesia, especially in the context of acid land management. The selection of proper inoculants, such as LP 3 for growth and BGR 3 for production, can help farmers in maximizing crop yields. In addition, calcification of sour land has proven to be an effective strategy to increase the availability of nutrition and support the growth of useful microorganisms.
