Every company has ambitions to have high value and attract investors. To achieve this, the company must be able to maintain the factors that support the company's value. One key factor is the capital structure, which is influenced by several determinants such as profitability ratio, tangible assets, growth rates, company size, and non-debt tax deduction (non-debt tax shield). Understanding the determinants of capital structure is crucial for companies to make informed decisions about their financial management.

This study examines the effect of the determinant of the capital structure on the value of manufacturing companies in Southeast Asia for the 2013-2015 period. This study uses descriptive-explanatory research methods by collecting data through documentation studies. The research population consisted of 211 manufacturing companies listed on the stock exchange in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. The entire population is used as a sample using a saturated sampling method. Data analysis is carried out using path analysis (path analysis) through software EViews 7.0.

Methodology and Data Analysis

The research methodology used in this study is descriptive-explanatory research, which aims to describe and explain the relationship between the determinants of capital structure and company value. The data collection method used is documentation study, where data is collected from various sources such as company reports, financial statements, and other relevant documents. The research population consisted of 211 manufacturing companies listed on the stock exchange in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines.

The data analysis method used in this study is path analysis, which is a statistical method used to analyze the relationship between multiple variables. The path analysis was performed using software EViews 7.0, which is a statistical software package used for data analysis and modeling. The results of the path analysis are presented in the form of coefficients, which represent the strength and direction of the relationship between the variables.

Results and Discussion

The results of this study show that simultaneously, the ratio of profitability, tangible assets, growth rates, company size, and non-debt tax reduction have a negative and significant influence on the capital structure of manufacturing companies in Southeast Asia. The coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.8632 shows that the determinant is able to explain 86.32% of the variation of the capital structure. Partially, the profitability ratio has a negative and significant effect on the capital structure, while the company's size has a positive and significant influence.

Furthermore, this study also found that simultaneously, profitability ratios, tangible assets, growth rates, company size, non-debt tax reduction, and capital structure have a positive and significant influence on company value. The coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.8822 shows that the determinant is able to explain 88.22% of the company value variations. Partially, tangible assets, growth rates, and company size have a positive and significant influence on company value.

These results indicate that the capital structure does have an influence on company value, but does not act as an intervening variable. That is, the effect of determinants of capital structure on company value does not go through capital structure as an intermediary. This finding becomes important because it shows that companies need to focus on increasing profitability and managing their tangible assets efficiently, as well as considering the company's growth and size factor to increase the company's value.

Implications and Limitations

This research has several important implications. First, for investors, understanding the determinant of capital structure and its impact on the value of the company will help them in assessing investment potential in manufacturing companies in Southeast Asia. Second, for manufacturing companies, this research provides guidance on how to increase company value through optimizing capital structure.

Although this research provides valuable insight, some limitations need to be considered. This research only covers the 2013-2015 period and may not reflect the latest conditions. In addition, this research also does not consider other factors that may affect capital structure and company value, such as macroeconomic factors and government policies. Further research with a wider time coverage and variable is needed to get a more comprehensive understanding of the determinant of capital structure and its impact on the value of manufacturing companies in Southeast Asia.
