Introduction

The study of genetic diversity and distribution patterns of Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) plants is crucial for understanding the potential of this crop for various applications. Materials and Methods

This study was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan, with a height of 32 meters above sea level, from September 2016 to March 2017. The study used the Roselindo 2 variety seeds that had been irradiated by Gamma Sinar in previous studies. The data collected from various parameters, such as the percentage of germination, plant height, number of branches, canopy diameter, flower petal diameter, harvest age, flower petal weight per plant, fruit weight per plant, and number of petals per plant, were analyzed to understand the genetic diversity and distribution patterns of Rosella plants.

Results

The results of this study show that the irradiation of gamma rays with a certain dose can induce genetic diversity in Rosella plants, which manifests in differences in morphology and quantitative characteristics. The results are as follows:

Population 150 Gy

Reduced diameter of flower petals: The population 150 Gy showed a significant reduction in the diameter of flower petals, which can be attributed to mutations that affect the production of flowers.

Population 300 Gy
