The Level of Collaboration and the Reasons for the Author to Collaborate on the Periodic Accredited Journal of Library and Information Science in 2003-2018

Introduction

Collaboration among scientific journal authors has become an increasingly general phenomenon in recent years. The trend of collaboration has been observed in various fields of study, including library and information science. This study aims to explore the level of collaboration carried out by authors, the reasons behind the collaboration, as well as the impact of the recognition of journal accreditation on this collaboration pattern, especially after the regular journal of library science and accredited information in 2017.

Methodology

The research method applied in this study is descriptive with the bibliometric approach. The researcher's population consisted of 136 authors involved in articles writing collaboration. Sampling was carried out with a total sampling, while data collection techniques involved downloading articles from the journal website and the distribution of questionnaires both print and online to collaborating authors.

Results

Based on the results of the study, the overall collaboration rate reached 0.44, with 2006 recorded the highest collaboration rate, namely 1, and in 2011 and 2014 as the year with the lowest collaboration rates, namely 0. The results also showed that more than 72% of respondents reported that they preferred research conducted collaboratively because it is considered to provide various benefits, ranging from improving quality to efficiency in research.

The Impact of Journal Accreditation on Collaboration

From the analysis conducted, 39 out of 56 respondents agreed that there was a positive influence from an accredited journal on writing collaboration. The authors feel that this accreditation not only improves the quality of writing, but also sets a tighter publication standard and a more comprehensive review. Journal accreditation recognition provides additional motivation for authors to be more active in collaboration, which in turn can improve research results and overall scientific quality.
