Introduction

The role of women in agriculture has been increasingly recognized as a vital component in achieving food security and improving socio-economic conditions in rural communities. In Buluduri Village, Lae Parira District, Dairi Regency, North Sumatra Province, women farmers play a significant part in contributing to the socio-economic improvement of their families. This study aims to reveal the contribution of women farmers in improving the socio-economic conditions of families in Buluduri Village.

Methodology

This study employed a quantitative approach, using a sample of 71 female farmers selected through purposive sampling techniques. The sample was chosen based on the following criteria: wives, working in the agricultural sector, having family dependents, and having undergone the profession as farmers for more than two years. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire, which was administered to the sample of female farmers. The data was analyzed using linear regression and hypothesis testing to examine the relationship between the contribution of women farmers and family socio-economic improvement.

Results

The results of this study showed that the contribution of women farmers to the socio-economic improvement of the family was relatively small, with a R-Square value of 0.058. This indicates that despite a significant contribution, the impact on family socio-economic improvement is still limited. The results of the linear regression test showed that the model obtained was y = 65,011 + 0.533x. The 'A' figure of 65,011 reflects the initial socio-economic conditions of the family, while the positive 'B' of 0.533 shows that any additional contribution from female farmers will have a positive effect on improving the socio-economic conditions of the family.

The results of this study suggest that female farmers have a significant role in improving family socio-economic conditions, despite their contribution being limited.
