The Effect of Teacher Professional Development on Youth Capacity Increasing in Deli Serdang Regency

Introduction

Teachers play a vital role in the world of education, and their existence is crucial in providing quality education to students. Without quality teachers, other educational resources will feel less meaningful. They are the spearhead in efforts to improve the quality of services and educational outcomes in each education unit. In this study, we examined the effect of the development of teacher professionalism on increasing the capacity of youth in Deli Serdang Regency. This research was conducted in three state high schools and involved 53 teachers as respondents.

The Importance of Teacher Professional Development

Teacher professional development is essential in improving the quality of education. It involves the continuous learning and improvement of teachers' skills, knowledge, and attitudes to enhance their teaching practices. The development of teacher professionalism has a significant impact on the capacity building of youth. It enables teachers to provide better instruction, create a supportive learning environment, and foster a love for learning among students. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of teacher professional development on increasing the capacity of youth in Deli Serdang Regency.

Research Methodology

In this study, the variables analyzed consisted of the development of teacher professionalism as an independent variable and increasing the capacity of youth as a dependent variable. Data was collected through questionnaires, documentation, interviews, and observations. The data analysis was carried out descriptively and used simple linear regression to evaluate the relationship between the two variables.

Research Result

The results showed that the development of teacher professionalism had a positive effect on increasing youth capacity by 39.4%. This means that despite the significant influence of the development of teacher professionalism, there are still 60.6% of other factors that also influence the capacity of youth. This shows complexity in education, where many other elements - such as the social environment, family support, and other resources - also play an important role in the learning process.

In addition, the North Sumatra Provincial Government is advised to pay more attention and allocate education funds for teacher quality improvement programs, especially through training and professional development.

Conclusion

The development of teacher professionalism is proven to make a significant contribution to the capacity building of youth in Deli Serdang Regency. Therefore, improving the quality of teachers must be a priority in the educational agenda. With a joint effort between teachers, government, and the community, the quality of education in this area is expected to be improved, so as to be able to create a more competent young generation and ready to face challenges in the future.

Limitation of the Study

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study was conducted in only three state high schools in Deli Serdang Regency. Secondly, the study only focused on the development of teacher professionalism as an independent variable and increasing the capacity of youth as a dependent variable. Thirdly, the study did not consider other factors that may influence the capacity of youth.
