Introduction

If the Belawan watershed ecosystem is not considered in spatial planning, this ecosystem will be endangered. In the Medan City area, the Belawan Das has an area of 2,807.45 hectares, with a protected zone of 1,571.21 hectares and a limited use of 1,392.54 hectares. The study also shows that almost all ecosystem systems in the Belawan watershed that crosses the city of Medan are already paralyzed, including the buffer zone, the utilization zone, and the protection zone.

The results of this study highlight the importance of the integration of environmental aspects in spatial planning. Efforts to transfer people who live on the river bank with the help of housing soft credit, although it is a short-term solution, must be accompanied by integrated and sustainable spatial planning.
