Description of the Results of DHF Surveillance in Dairi Regency 2011-2015

Introduction

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) has become a significant public health concern in Indonesia. With a morbidity rate of 39.8 per 100,000 population and a mortality rate of 0.9% in 2014, DHF has shown a substantial impact on public health. One of the affected areas is Dairi Regency, which is categorized as a sporadic region of DHF. This study aims to provide an overview of the results of DHF surveillance in Dairi Regency during the 2011 to 2015 period.

Methodology

This study is descriptive and collects data through interviews with surveillance officers and using secondary data from the Dairi District Health Office. The data collected includes the incident rate of DHF, death rate due to DHF, and the distribution of DHF cases by age, sex, and district.

Results

The results showed that the DHF incident rate during 2011-2015 varied between 29.68 to 52.59 per 100,000 population. The death rate due to DHF was recorded at 0.86% in 2015, with the most proportion of sufferers in the male group (57.27%) and the age group 15-44 years (47.33%). Sidikalang District recorded the highest proportion of DHF sufferers (63.35%) and Sidikalang Village with 34.62%.

The most common distribution of DHF cases occurred in 2014 with a total of 146 cases, while in October recorded the highest number of cases (57 cases). The phenomenon that attracts attention is the surge in DHF cases that exceed the maximum pattern in January and June, as well as the peak of transmission that occurred in October. This shows that there is a clear seasonal pattern in the transmission of DHF in this area.

Discussion

However, DHF control, known as P2DBD, shows deficiencies in the implementation of epidemiological surveillance. Fogging focus carried out is not supported by adequate epidemiological investigations, and mass fogging has not been carried out before the transmission season. In addition, larvae-free rates ranging from 52.10% to 71.05% show that there are still problems in vector control.

Of the total 18 Puskesmas, only 11 Puskesmas meet health standards in the accuracy and completeness of DHF reports in accordance with the criteria of the Ministry of Health, which is 80%. This reflects the existence of an urgent need to increase collaboration and communication between DHF surveillance officers in the Health Office and officers at the Puskesmas.

From the results of this study, it can be concluded that there needs to be an increase in the implementation of more effective and coordinated DHF surveillance to reduce the morbidity and death rates due to DHF in Dairi Regency. Good cooperation between various related parties, as well as the use of accurate and timely surveillance data, is very important to optimize the response to the transmission of this disease. Through integrated efforts, it is expected that DHF control in Dairi Regency can be increased and the risk of the community to this disease can be minimized.
