In addition, this research also showed a significant relationship between the knowledge and conditions of basic sanitation of housing. Fishermen with higher knowledge about basic sanitation tend to have better basic sanitation conditions. This finding highlights the importance of education and counseling about the importance of basic sanitation in improving the condition of housing sanitation.

Discussion

The findings of this study have several important implications for the fishing community in Bungus Teluk Kabung District, Padang City. First, the government and related institutions need to pay special attention to increasing the income of the fishing community in the region. Programs that can increase income, such as skills training and access to venture capital, can help improve the basic sanitation conditions of housing.

Second, the education and counseling program on basic sanitation needs to be encouraged in the region. This education must be presented in a language that is easily understood and adapted to the culture of the fishing community. Submission of information through media that is easily accessible, such as social media and leaflets, can also be an effective strategy.

Third, the need for support and assistance from the government and related institutions to provide access to adequate basic sanitation facilities. Affordable and easily accessible basic sanitation facilities will improve the quality of life of the fishing community and support the realization of a clean and healthy environment.

Conclusion

This research is proof that access to basic sanitation is still a challenge for the fishing community in Bungus Teluk Kabung District. By understanding the relationship between the level of income, knowledge, and basic sanitation conditions, effective intervention efforts can be done to improve the quality of life of the fishing community and create a healthier environment.
