Introduction

Menopause is a natural phase of life experienced by every woman, usually occurring between the ages of 40 to 60 years. This transition is often accompanied by physical and psychological changes that can lead to anxiety and stress. In the working area of Pijorkoling Puskesmas, there were 2,917 mothers who were at risk of experiencing anxiety related to menopause. This study aims to analyze the relationship between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and anxiety experienced by these mothers in facing menopause syndrome in 2015.

Data was collected through the distribution of questionnaires, which were then analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis methods, including chi-square statistical tests and multivariate analysis with multiple logistics regression at a significance level of 95%.

Results

The results of the study showed a significant relationship between intrinsic factors and anxiety experienced by menopausal women. Factors such as needs (p = 0.001), expectations (p = 0.001), and interest (p = 0.004) were proven to contribute to the level of anxiety. On the other hand, there was also a relationship between extrinsic factors, namely family support (p = 0.001), the environment (p = 0.001), and information media (p = 0.001) with the anxiety of the mother in the face of menopausal syndrome. Among all factors, family support was the most influential factor, with an odd ratio of 12,137 and 95% confidence interval (CI) of 2,818-52,271. This shows that menopausal women have the possibility of 12,137 times greater to experience mild anxiety than moderate anxiety.

Discussion

The results of the study highlight the importance of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in helping to reduce anxiety experienced by menopausal women. Intrinsic motivation, which comes from within individuals such as needs and hopes, is very important to build self-confidence and reduce fear of change. Meanwhile, support from the surrounding environment, especially families, is a significant external factor in reducing the level of anxiety. Emotional support, appropriate information, and a supportive environment can provide a sense of security for women who are experiencing menopausal syndrome.

Conclusion

Based on the results of the study, it is recommended that the management of Pijorkoling Puskesmas can empower health workers in providing specific health counseling for menopausal women regularly. This can be done through the elderly posyandu program and home visits to ensure optimal support for mothers who experience this change. With the right approach, it is expected that the anxiety experienced by menopausal women can be minimized, so that they can face this phase more calmly and confidently.
