Growth Response and Production of Sweet Corn Plants (Zea Mays Saccharata Sturt.) To the Provision of Chicken Manure and NPK Pearl Fertilizer 16:16:16

Introduction

The growth and production of sweet corn plants are influenced by various factors, including the provision of fertilizers. Fertilizers play a crucial role in providing essential nutrients to plants, which are necessary for optimal growth and development. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of the provision of chicken manure and NPK pearl fertilizer 16:16:16 on the growth and production of sweet corn plants. The study was conducted in Piasa Ulu Village, Tinggi Raja District, Asahan Regency, Kisaran, which is located at an altitude of about 32 meters above sea level.

Methodology

The study took place from October to December 2019 using a factorial randomized group design that involved two main factors: Dosage of Chicken Manure (0, 30, 60, 90 g/plant) and NPK Pearl fertilizer dose 16:16:16 (0, 4, 8 g/plant). The study location was chosen due to its suitable climate and soil conditions for sweet corn cultivation. The experimental design was used to evaluate the effect of the provision of chicken manure and NPK pearl fertilizer on the growth and production of sweet corn plants.

Results

The results showed that the increase in the dose of NPK Pearl fertilizer was directly proportional to the increase in production results, with the highest dose of 8 g/plants giving the best results, equivalent to 400 kg/ha. Conversely, the provision of chicken manure does not show a significant effect on the growth and production of sweet corn. This study also noted that there was no significant interaction between the treatment of chicken manure and pearl NPK fertilizer.
