Introduction

Preeclampsia is a condition that is part of hypertension in pregnancy and is one of the three main causes of maternal death in Indonesia. Understanding the early diagnosis of preeclampsia is crucial in preventing complications and reducing mortality rates. One of the parameters that can be used to diagnose this condition early is the immature platelet fraction (IPF). This article aims to describe the picture of IPF in people with preeclampsia, compare it with normal pregnant women, and analyze the relationship between the value of platelet and IPF.

Research Methods

This research was conducted with a case control approach using medical record data from RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan during the period July 2015 to July 2016. The sample size was selected using the total sampling method, where all medical records from patients who met the criteria were included in the analysis. This approach allowed for a comprehensive understanding of the IPF values in preeclampsia patients.

Research Results

Of the total 21 patients suffering from preeclampsia, it was found that all patients experienced an increase in the IPF value, with an average IPF of 32.62. Demographic analysis shows that women with preeclampsia are under or equal to 40 years more than those aged over 40 years, reaching 58.06%. In addition, more women with a multigravida history of preeclampsia compared to primigravida, with a proportion of 38.46%. Relationships with primipara/multipara also show a higher number than Nulipara (38.46%).

Comparison of IPF Values

Comparison of IPF values between women and preeclampsia and normal pregnant women show a statistical significant difference (p <0.05). This study also identified a significant relationship between the platelet value and the IPF value (P <0.05). The correlation coefficient found is -0.503, which shows a negative relationship with moderate power. This indicates that the lower the platelet value, the higher the IPF value produced.

Discussion

The results of this study confirm that preeclampsia is more common in women aged ≤ 40 years, as well as in women who have a history of more than one pregnancy. This finding is in line with the literature which states that the age and history of pregnancy can affect the risk of preeclampsia. It is essential to note that the increase in the value of IPF is inversely proportional to the number of platelets. This shows that in preeclampsia patients, although the number of platelets decreases, platelet activity continues to increase, which can be an indicator of higher risk complications.

Conclusion

Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that preeclampsia is more common in women under or equal to 40 years, as well as those who have a history of more than one pregnancy. There is a significant difference in the value of IPF between women and preeclampsia and normal pregnant women. In addition, the lower the platelet value, the higher the IPF value produced. This discovery provides important insights for the handling and prevention of preeclampsia in the future.
