Additionally, transferrin saturation showed a significant difference between the two groups, with a mean value of 16.3% (SD 8.3) in children with infection compared to 21.2% (SD 6.2) in children without infection.

However, there was no significant difference found in serum ferritin and total iron binding capacity (TIBC) between the two groups. Serum ferritin levels in infected groups were 53.6 ng/ml (SD 34.4) and in non-infected groups were 49.4 ng/ml (SD 23.9), with a value of P = 0.615. Likewise, TIBC recorded 343.9 μg/dl (SD 48.7) in children with infection and 342.2 μg/dl (SD 33.5) in children without infection, with a value of P = 0.882.

From this study, it can be concluded that there are significant differences in hemoglobin levels, iron serum, and transferrin saturation between infected and uninfected children.
