Introduction

Down syndrome, a developmental disorder that affects physical and mental development, is characterized by different characteristics from normal conditions. Down syndrome patients generally have a relatively short height, small head size, and flat nose shape similar to Mongolians. This condition is caused by excess genetic material on chromosomes 21. Uniquely, Down syndrome has three types, namely Trisomy-21, translocation, and mosaic, which has similar physical characteristics. The difference can only be seen through genetic analysis. To overcome this challenge, this research carries a technology approach using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) method in classifying the type of Down syndrome through digital image processing.

The digital image processing process begins with the pre-processing stage which includes:

Resizing: Set the image size so that it is uniform and facilitates the next process.
Grayscalling: Changing the color image into a gray image to facilitate the extraction of features.
Median filter: Eliminating noise or disruption in the image to improve image quality.

Feature Extraction

Tahap selanjutnya, ekstraksi fitur dilakukan dengan menggunakan:

Canny Edge Thresholding: Mendeteksi tepi objek dalam citra untuk mempermudah identifikasi fitur.
Zoning Method: Membagi citra menjadi beberapa zona untuk memudahkan ekstraksi fitur berdasarkan lokasi tertentu.

Classification with Support Vector Machine (SVM)

Data citra yang telah diolah kemudian diklasifikasikan berdasarkan jenis Sindrom Down menggunakan SVM. Metode ini memiliki keunggulan dalam memisahkan data menjadi beberapa kelas berdasarkan karakteristik yang berbeda.

Results and Analysis

Penelitian ini menggunakan 231 data citra wajah yang dibagi menjadi dua bagian: data latih dan data uji. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa sistem berhasil mengklasifikasikan jenis Sindrom Down dengan akurasi mencapai 82%. Penelitian ini membuka peluang baru dalam deteksi dini Sindrom Down dengan akurasi yang tinggi.
