This article aims to analyze the effect of the function of the village competition on community participation in village development in Teluk Mengkudu District, Serdang Bedagai Regency.

This figure shows that the village race has a significant influence on community initiatives in developing villages in the Teluk Mengkudu District. That is, the higher the intensity of the village competition held, the higher the level of community participation in development. The positive relationship between the two variables shows that the village race not only motivated the community to participate, but also aroused the spirit of collaboration among villagers.

The results of further analysis show that in the second regression, the village race coefficient value is 0.3278 with sig.t = 0.0156. This also shows the significant effect of village competitions on community initiatives, even though the value is lower than the previous results.

Conclusion

Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the village race is an effective effort to increase community participation in village development. The government, both central and regional, needs to continue to develop and promote village competitions as a means to educate the public about the importance of their participation in the development process. With the increasingly active community in village development, it is hoped that a more independent, prosperous and sustainable village will be created. Therefore, the village race must be considered as one of the main strategies in community empowerment efforts at the local level.
