Introduction

With the rapid development of technology in designing earthquake-resistant buildings, various types of earthquake dampers have been developed to improve structural safety. One of the most used tools is viscos damper (fluid viscous damper). This Final Project aims to explore the effectiveness of the use of viscos reduction devices in terms of placement in high-rise buildings. In this analysis, the response of a 20-storey multi-storey concrete structure will be evaluated based on three different placement patterns of the viscos reduction devices of the same amount. Method of Analysis of Dynamic Linear Time History which refers to FEMA356 will be applied to review the response of the building model to earthquakes.

The Importance of Placement

The viscos damper device serves to absorb the energy produced by the vibration, thereby reducing the amplitude of the movement of building structures. The right placement of this tool can greatly affect the overall performance of the building, especially in reducing deformation and risk of damage. This analysis not only aims to meet the applicable design standards, but also to contribute to the development of earthquake mitigation techniques that are better for tall buildings in earthquake-prone areas.

Research Methodology

This study uses soil acceleration data from the El Centro earthquake which has been adjusted to the design of the design spectrum in accordance with SNI standards for the Aceh region. The four models of the building analyzed will show how variations in the placement of the damper affect the structural response. The selection of proper earthquake data is very important to get relevant and accurate analysis results.

Analysis and Results

The results of this analysis will show the maximum response amount of the structure in each model tested. By comparing the maximum response in the four models, we can identify the most efficient placement pattern of the Damper tool. If the placement of viscos damper devices is carried out optimally, it can be ascertained that the building response to earthquake vibrations will be minimized, so that the safety of the building can be more maintained.
