Introduction

The quality of vegetable oils, such as Palm Olein RBD, is a crucial factor in determining their suitability for consumption and use in various culinary applications. Two important parameters that determine the quality of oil are free fatty acids (FFA) and iodine numbers (IN). In this study, an analysis of FFA and IN in Palm Olein RBD was conducted at the Customs and Excise Laboratory Center for Class II Medan. The objective of this study was to determine the levels of FFA and IN in Palm Olein RBD and to evaluate its quality in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

Methodology

The analysis of FFA was conducted using alkalimetry titration, while the analysis of IN was conducted using iodometric titration. The samples used in this study were Palm Olein RBD A, B, and C. The results of the analysis were then compared with the SNI standards for FFA and IN.

Results

The results of the analysis showed that the levels of FFA in Palm Olein RBD A, B, and C were 0.06%, 0.07%, and 0.10%, respectively. Meanwhile, the values of IN for Palm Olein RBD A, B, and C were 60.39 g I2/100 g, 59.35 g I2/100 g, and 59.25 g I2/100 g, respectively. These results show that the three samples of Palm Olein RBD have met the SNI standards for FFA and IN.
